The gold bowtie on the Tracker front grille is new, as well as several interior refinements, a family of radios and an improved manual hub system on 4-wheel-drive models. But one thing hasn't changed. In a world of car-based mini sport utilities, Tracker provides genuine utility due to a rugged ladder-type frame and true truck suspension, all in a maneuverable, easy-to-use package. For 1998, Tracker becomes the newest sibling of the Chevrolet family of sport utilities, the broadest offering of sport utilities under any nameplate. Tracker, offered in 2WD and 4x4 configurations, is available in 4-Door Hardtop models or a 2-Door Convertible, providing entry-level buyers the choice of a "wind-in-the hair" ride in an off road rugged truck ideal for "adventuring." In either case, Tracker, one of the few mini sport utilities actually built on a truck frame, offers the tough durability renowned of Chevy Trucks, something many other mini sport utilities don't provide.

Exterior Paint

Standard basecoat/clearcoat paint on Tracker resists fading and provides a high-gloss shine for long-lasting exterior beauty. The clearcoat system is formulated to minimize the effects of acid rain and other environmental damage. Clearcoat finish is used with all colors - solids and metallicsexcept white. The paint process builds up six layers of protection on every new Tracker (basecoat, four layers of color, clearcoat). In addition, all body sheet-metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for six years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).

· A total immersion phosphate electrodeposition (ELPO) process applies the first layer of primer paint. Electric voltage is applied to the bodies while submerged in the paint bath to ensure complete coverage, even in hard-to-reach areas.

· A glossy water-based highlighting solution is applied to all exterior surfaces to reveal any imperfections before the body is painted.
