The 1998 Accord Sedan benefits from the most comprehensive redesign in the 22-year history of Honda's best-selling model. Improvements include a more spacious interior; enhanced safety and security features; more powerful and efficient 4- and 6-cylinder engines; improved ride and handling; and a long list of standard features. Combined with the Accord's reputation for world-class quality and reliability, the 1998 Honda Accord Sedan sets new standards for comfort, performance and value.  The new Accord Sedan boasts a larger, mid-size class interior and a low cowl, slender roof pillars and enlarged glass areas for improved outward visibility. With 101.7 cubic feet of passenger space, the Accord Sedan offers a larger passenger cabin than either the Camry or Taurus. Head, shoulder and leg room all have been increased. Rear seat passengers benefit from 3.6 inches of added leg room, while hip room is increased by more than 2 inches, front and rear. Trunk capacity also is increased, to 14.1 cubic feet.  All Accord models benefit from a new chassis design and body structure, both of which play key roles in the Accord's more refined ride quality and precise, responsive, handling. An all-new 3.0-liter, SOHC, V-6 engine with Honda's patented VTEC (variable valve timing and valvelift electronic control) produces 200-horsepower and 195 foot-pounds of torque. The lightest and most compact V-6 engine in its class, the new engine provides an EPA estimated city/highway fuel economy rating of 21 /28 mpg and uses regular unleaded gasoline. Accord 4-cylinder DX, LX and EX models are powered by a 2.3-liter, SOHC, 16-valve engine. EX and LX models get a VTEC version of the engine, producing 150 horsepower and 152 lb.-ft. of torque.   The economical Accord DX engine produces 135-horsepower and 145 lb.-ft. of torque with an EPA city/highway fuel economy estimate of 22/29 mpg. .A 5-speed manual transmission is standard equipment on all 4-cylinder Accords. A new 4-speed automatic transmission with direct-electronic shift control for smoother gear changes is standard on all Accord V-6 Sedans, and available on 4-cylinder models. EX and LX 4-cylinder models meet California's Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) standard and will be sold throughout the United States.

Safety and security are enhanced in the 1998 Accord Sedan. The unit body, high strength cabin and ladder-type subframe help the Accord meet worldwide regulations for occupant protection, including U.S. frontal, side, and angled-front impact standards. All Accord Sedans come equipped with dual air bags, 5-mph bumpers, adjustable three-point seat belts at all five seating positions and an immobilizer anti-theft system that requires an electronic match between the driver's key and ignition system before the car will start.

The all-new 1998 Honda Accord Coupe combines a dynamic new look zvith more pozverful engines, an advanced suspension, a stronger body and a larger interior to take on the mid-size, sporty-coupe segment. The Coupe's bold styling, distinctive from the best-selling Accord Sedan, was designed and developed by Honda's Research and Development operations in North America. As a result, the Coupe has dramatic new styling and shares only the headlights with the Sedan.

For the first time, a V-6 powerplant is available in the Coupe end it's one of the most powerful in the class. The 200-horsepower, 3.0-liter, 24-valve aluminum V-6 features Honda's patented VTEC system (variable valve timing and lift electronic control) and moves the new Coupe from 0-60 in 8.2 seconds. The Coupe also is available with a 150-horsepower, 2.3-liter, 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine. The 4-cylinder engine meets California's stringent Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) standard.  The 4-cylinder is available with a 5-speed or 4-speed automatic transmission. The V-6 is equipped zvith the electronically-controlled automatic. All combinations provide outstanding fuel economy -- the 4-cylinder with a 5-speed transmission earning an EPA city/highzvay rating of 25/31 mpg; the 4-cylinder automatic a 25/30 mpg rating; and the V-6 a 21 /28 mpg rating.

Both the 4-cylinder and V-6 models are available in LX and EX trim levels. The long list of standard equipment for all models includes a neiv immobilizer theft-deterrent system, dual airbags, effort sensitive rack-and-pinion power steering, adjustable steering column, cruise control, three-point seat belts at all five seating positions, power windows, mirrors and door locks, cruise control, air conditioning with micron air-filtration, AM/FM/cassette stereo, 60/40 rear folding seatback, rear cupholders and special tinted windows to help maintain a cooler interior. Accord Coupe EX 4-cylinder models add 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, power moonroof and compact disc player with six speakers. Optional equipment includes a leather and wood-grain interior trim with 8-way power driver's seat. V-6 models feature standard ABS and 4-wheel disc brakes. The EX V-6 Coupe adds 16-inch alloy wheels, steering wheel mounted audio controls, leather and wood-grain interior trim, automatic climate control, and a HomeLink ® remote system that can be programmed for garage doors and home security systems. All Coupes feature a reinforced body subframe that not only meets U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards but also European standards for frontal and side impact, as well as rollover.
