New York International Auto Show 2015 Highlights
The New York International Auto Show 2015 (NYIAS 2015) is well underway with thousands upon thousands of visitors pouring into the Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre to see a selection of some of the latest metal on American turf.
The show, typically, revolves around American manufacturers, but NYIAS 2015 treated us to a host of new European cars that made the New York Auto Show 2015 one to be remembered. We have complied our highlights of the show into one post, be sure to hit the links for the full stories, details and live galleries of each car.
After being teased for weeks with images and videos of test mules and more, McLaren finally pulled the wraps of the all-new and first ever Sports Series car, the McLaren 570S and without a doubt it stole the show! This car is one that is hugely significant for McLaren as it promises to double the number of cars that McLaren sells and produces in coming months.
The performance figures may not match those of the Super or Ultimate Series cars, but are still very impressive in their own right. The headline numbers are as follows, a power output of 564 bhp with light weight construction to give a class leading power-to-weight ratio of 428 bhp per tonne. These figures culminate to fire the the 570S from zero to 100km/h (62 mph) in 3.2-seconds, while 200 km/h (124 mph) is reached in a very impressive 9.5-seconds with the pace not letting up till the car reaches a top speed of 328 km/h (204mph).
One of the surprises at the New York International Auto Show 2015 was the Porsche Boxster Spyder that wowed crowds with its stunning new roof design.
Compared to the Cayman GT4, power has is down slightly to a total of 375 hp. Torque figures are yet to be disclosed but the German marque has confirmed that the 718-generation Porsche Boxster Spyder will sprint to 96 km/h (60 mph) in a mere 4.3 seconds as well as a 290 km/h top speed.
I was not all speed and supercars at NYIAS 2015. There were a handful of new luxury cars on show, thats not to say that some of them are not blisteringly quick!
Mercedes-Benz had dissolved the M-Class in it new naming structure and introduced its replacement, the Mercedes-Benz GLE, at NYIAS 2015. Alongside the name change, the GLE adopts a plethora of aesthetic modifications as well as a host of mechanical tweaks making general improvements on the M-Class. As with the majority of Mercedes-Benz cars, the GLE will be available with a number of different engines.
The engine that, naturally, we are most excited about is in the Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S. It features the German firm’s staple 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine delivering a total of 577 hp as well as 561 lb-ft of torque. As a result of this power and torque, the potent GLE derivative will rocket to 100 km/h in a mere 4.2 seconds as well as an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
Mercedes-Benz have created the world’s most powerful production off-road vehicle. We have grown to love the monumental G Wagon and the most mighty 4×4 model (nothing with ever come close to trumping the bonkers 6×6!) the V12 Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG made its American debut at the New York Auto Show 2015.
Under its angular hood the G 65 AMG hides a monumental power plant. The G 65 AMG features a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 AMG engine. It produces 604hp and 738lb-ft of torque with the same AMG Speedshift Plus, seven-speed automatic transmission. It does 100km/h from standstill in 4.4 seconds and has a limited top speed of 276km/h.
From the fastest 4×4 to what may just be the most luxurious, meet the 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography. The car comes courtesy of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division and is also the most expensive Range Rover model ever introduced wearing a sticker price of 148,900 pounds in the UK.
Beneath the skin, the Range Rover SVAutobiography is available with the marque’s SDV8 and SDV6 hybrid powertrain options as well as the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 unit from the potent Range Rover Sport SVR. However, Land Rover has yet to confirm if it has detuned that engine from 542 hp in the SVR to slightly less in the SVAutobiography.
Jaguar Land Rover also officially showed the 2016 Jaguar XF to the public for the first time. Every design component is new and the 2016 XF gets an aluminium-intensive architecture which is said to make it 80 kg lighter than its nearest rivals. The chassis features a double-wishbone and integral link. The XF also offers full-LED headlights.
It is always a pleasure visiting the New York International Motor Show and we hope to report live, as we have have done in 2015, for many years to come. Stay tuned for all the latest automotive and luxury news right here at GTspirit.com
