I've had a bad experience dealing with CHRYSLER FINANCIAL trying to setup electronic Auto-Pay and change the payment date.  I've owned my vehicle since May and Chrysler Financial still hasn't been able to start my Auto-Pay or change the payment date.  They also charge $30 to change the payment date.  Has anyone else had an experience like this?

I recently experienced problems with Chrysler Financial stating they would work with me on a payment plan for a car I had financed through them.  I no longer owned the vehicle when I contacted them and after a month of believing they were going to help me out, they changed their story and left me to pay the full balance within seven days.

I've posted the entire story on a new web site based on this exact situation.

I have had problems also with Chrysler Financial.  For the past 14 months, I have been harassed and threaten by Chrysler Financial Customer Service Department. I have made some late payments in the past with Chrysler due to unemployment. Since  I have been employeed, I have rectified the late payments into early current payments.  I have made a few payments for multiple months; instead of Chrysler entering  the payments for the specified months, they would only apply the payments to one month. Therefore, Their Customer Service computer will flag to their CSR's each month that my payments are late.  In additon, Chrysler also will process payments that are not addressed to their company.  I accidently sent a payment (Cashiers check) for another company to Chrysler Financial in January of 2003; this payment not only wasn't addressed to Chrysler, but also was $150 more than my car payment amount; and still they will continue to call me to inform me, I am two months behind.

I too am very displeased with Chrysler Financial.  As others, I wanted to pay two months in advance only to discover they only applied it to one month although I sent in two separate checks and payment slips.  I have two vehicles with them, and thank GOD both will be paid off in 3 months.

I am fed up with their pestering customer service if I am late 2 weeks.  I  even tried to talk to them politely.  However, my only request was not to call after 7:30 due to kids in bed.  No one calls my house at that time. Not even my mother!!!  I even wrote to ask them not to.  To frustrate things further, not only would they call after 7:30, I would sometimes recieve the first call of the day at 8:00 8:30.   Once speaking to someone, do you think that damn answering service stopped calling my house?  You guessed it. NO!!!!!  They called 15 minutes later and again the next day!!!!!

We are buying cars this year since it is time, but they definitely won't be anything associated with Chrysler.  Goodbye and Good ridden!!!!!!!!

get over it people.

mlh1-nice site, looks very professional, too bad there's nothing to be done to help you.  Blame your insurance company for not covering all your debt or learn your lesson and buy Gap insurance next time and you would have had no trouble.  Don't blame Chrysler-they allowed you to roll a balance form one loan to the next which isnt required and it isnt their fault that you got in an accident and your insurance wouldnt cover you fully-why don't you blame the insurance co. for paying them to not cover your debt?  I agree the amount of time given was very short notice, but any dealer could have rolled the balance into new financing for you whether done w/CFC or not.  The Mgr. you talked to at CFC did not send the shortage notice as you believe-it came from an accounting office that saw CFC no longer had the collateral for the loan (the car) and was exercising their rights to complete the agreement.  Dealers are independent of the financing co. and usually have multiple lenders avail. plus you could have gone to a bank to cover a new car and the balance... and CFC won't accept credit card payments since it is paying a debt with a debt and is against policy, some states wont allow it so they are uniform for the whole country.  You got some crappy assistance from those people but either way it would have been pretty much the same at other *auto* financing companies as well-I highlight auto since not all lenders work the same-a credit card is usually unsecured and will be happy receiving any funds to prevent closure of account continued payments since they can't claim anything that will help them complete you obligation, an auto loan is secured until the car is gone (like stolen or accident) and then can be trouble...

MsLucy- you entered a Contract.  Chrysler expected payment on time and if you couldn't afford the car you should have either not purchased it, sold it, or traded down to something you could afford.  I was out of work 6 months a short while back and didnt miss a payment on any bill sent to me, and not because I have money to burn but because I controlled my finances well and did whatever possible to avoid risking my credit or my belongings... when you were behind and made payments the cash covers the oldest due payment, not just what is on the statement you mail in-those other months don't just "disappear" and have you cover them later... and don't blame CFC for processing a payment issued to someone else- blame your bank for cashing it!  It is the bank's responsibility to verify the person cashing a check is the name on the check and they should take most of the blame.  CFC has 3 million accounts, about 2.5 million mail payments in.  Payments go to the same exact processing centers as your credit card payments (change the PO Box # and you'll most likely be through another companies' machines) and are run through machines- it is not CFC fault that you can't put your checks in the right envelope.  Want to find the person at fault?  Look in the mirror.  The payments are run through a scanning machine that reads the coupon and the info on the bottom of the check, and someone enters the amount only in the machine, and is not employed by CFC.  These are not hand-checked payments.  Costs would go through the roof and so your interest rates would be raised to compensate.

Benm- you can thank CFC for their "pestering"-it most likely saved you negative credit marks that would follow you for 7-10 years.  The gov't requires lenders to report all accounts not satisfied within 30 days of payment date and each 30 days thereafter.  If someone waits until after 30 days to call you for forgetting your commitment or a payment not showing on your accounts I'm sure you'd also be the first person demanding credit marks removed and questioning why noone called to tell you.  My suggestion: Put your payments for each vehicle in seperate envelopes and send them out no later than the due date.  Then you have no late fees and no surprises when you make that final payment and are shocked that it is more than regular amount from all that unpaid principle from paying after the due date.  -on the calls... the gov't established 8am-9pm as legal calling time.  If you make your payment on time in the first place calls would never happen.  If you don't call CFC to inform of the situation and have things corrected then you will be called at any time from 8am-9pm that can get you at home.  *The calls are not to sell you something-they are to get you to follow the agreement you made when you signed the contract, and if you can't make payments on time then I pity the next person that happens to lend you money.*  -and by hanging up you are just askig for another call since they know you are home and want to contact you.  If you aren't far behind (under 30 days) and are waiting on a paycheck then tell them exactly when and how much you can pay.  It will be entered to your account and a hold can be placed on the account from calls.... or you can keep hanging up or telling the people off and giving them more reason to call.

A financing company should not need thousands of people babysitting their customer's accounts for the simple fact that many people sign loans they can't cover on a consistent basis... and unless people are contacted early after not making payment then CFC would not know the situation and be able to help- if your business has irregular income then don't sign a loan for 5 or 6 years that you can't guarantee you can cover.  If you don't have a large business or extra cash on hand do not sign a lease-a lease is a fixed rental of a car and needs to be paid on time.  Don't blame a financing company for allowing you to loan $20K+ for that shiny new/used car you fell in love with that you couldn't really afford that a sales rep made you think you could.  I know that if you loaned cash to someone (imagine a $30K loan to a stranger you don't actually meet in person!) that you would like to get it at the time you agreed or sooner-wouldn't you?  If you disagree than you are a liar.  The payments made on time allow companies to loan to other people, so if you sign a 5 yr loan don't think you can pay when you feel and stretch it to when you want.  You would have not taken that car home without that lender.

Hello there.

I’ve just had THE WORST experience dealing with those Account Representatives at Chrysler Financial! Five years ago, I purchased a car from Chrysler. For four and a half years, I’ve made my payments with the coupons they provided to me to the same PO Box. Back in February, my Account Representative, Anthony Farnum started calling me and telling me that I had not made my payments. I told him that I had. This went on for another month and a half. It got to the point where Mr. Farnum started harassing me constantly. He even went as far as calling me a “Liar” and telling me that I was “A coward, hiding behind my secretaries”. This person was extremely rude to me. I was completely unable to get anywhere with him. He kept insisting that I had NOT made my payments and kept calling me a liar!

In mid March, my Account Rep asked where I had been sending the payments and I told him the address. I also told him that this was the same address where I had always sent them.

All along, I had been making me scheduled payments as usual to the same post Office Box. In late April, they repossessed my car! The next day after speaking to another person at Chrysler Financial named ‘Ricardo”, I found out that they had changed the address where I was to mail my payments. This had happened about a year ago and the payments were no longer being forwarded to the new address. Chrysler had not gotten the last three payments. My Account Representative had not informed me of the new address! It took me over a week to get my car back. They would not re-instate my loan so I had to completely pay off the car. I only had FOUR PAYMENTS LEFT anyway! I ended up putting tracers on the money orders I had sent to Chrysler.

To make matters worse, I have just found out that on May 15th, Chrysler had cashed one of the money orders that I had mailed as a payment in March. They cashed the money order AFTER I had completely paid the car off! I called Chrysler Financial again after getting back the results from the Postal Service Trace. Another Account Rep told me that I received a monthly statement after the new post office box was opened. THIS IS A TOTAL LIE! I never received any monthly statement from Chrysler. I told him that I have never relieved a monthly statement and he had the nerve to tell me “YES, YOU DID!”

I AM very DISPLEASED WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT Chrysler Financial! I’ve received nothing but disrespect from most of the people I’ve had contact with and I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLE AGAIN!

To whom it may concern,

The following payment was made to Chrysler via Citibank online banking.

Payee Name: CHRYSLER FINANCIAL CORP
Address:      FOR FASTEST SERVICE, WE WILL
          TRANSMIT YOUR PAYMENTS
          ELECTRONICALLY TO THIS PAYEE IN
          ATLANTA GA 30353-0100
Account Number With Payee:      5493846
Payment Method:      Paid electronically
Status:      ACTIVE
Last Payment:      05-31-2003 $ 222.59
Payments This Year:      $ 3,942.59
Payments Last Year:      $ 5,020.00

Chrysler has never had any problems crediting my account accordingly, in a timely manner. This transaction came back to Citibank as a settled transaction, June 3rd, 2003. Now, that I am dealing with the Redemption Department the electronically payment, that I made is supposedly not valid. Actually, it does not appear to have ever been made. I don't understand but I believe that a conspiracy is in the makings. Nevertheless, I have submitted another Western Union Quick Collect (June 5, 2003 at 4:27pm, tracking number 920-856-3217 this was in addition to $1,600.00 paid May 30, 2003, at 7:39pm, tracking number 920-321-0736) for the same amount of $222.59. Now Chrysler has 2 payments of $222.59.

I am not sure of the names of the people that I have dealt with via the phone. At least, I am sure that these are the names they used to introduce themselves. "Heather," is the most reasonable, yet stern but completely respectable agent I have had the pleasure of working with. She is the one that I hope to speak to when the phone is answered. Unfortunately, "Mary Lou," the rude agent in the Redemption Department is emotionally unstable and believes to be an expert on who calls in with an attitude. Just to be clear she is not a happy person working in the Redemption Department, it seems like she is without all her faculties.

I understand that this department must have the most arrogant, self centered, non-thinking, socially deprived meanest people in the world that only have one goal in life "WESTERN UNION QUICK COLLECT PAYMENT," to assure expeditious payments. As far as I am concerned this was my intention as well. But good old "Mary Lou," made sure to make a bad situation worse, longer and frustrating. Is this what Chrysler wants to project; I do not think so!

In addition, your agents are not aware of any contract with Citibank Online Banking. According to Citibank my transaction is transmitted electronically. This payment cannot bounce because it is deducted from my account prior to being sent to you. This is true for checks that are sent by Citibank Online Banking.

Now, it's been 10 days that the vehicle in question has been stored in a garage. I guess I have to pay that bill too. But, this I will do with pleasure as long as Mary Lou does not work with the garage. Could this be the conspiracy?   If you look at my payment history you will notice that I was making consistent payments of $620.00 twice a month through Citibank Online. I believe that this qualified as a "sincere effort to pay." Yet my vehicle was repossessed. Lets keep in mind that the electronic payment of $222.59, which was cleared by Citibank June 3rd, meaning that Chrysler received the payment. Yet, Chrysler Redemption Department denies that this payment exists. Again, I believe there is a conspiracy in the making.

Finally, I receive (June 6, 2003) the okay to pick up the vehicle. The bill was $480.00. I asked for an explanation of the cost and they explained that once I paid the bill I can dispute the cost. I could not help bridging the morbid logic that Mary Lou exhibited; but needless to say I paid the bill and asked again for an explanation. They claimed that the first 10 days (day of pickup is considered day 1, that is Tuesday to Tuesday is a cost of 8 days) cost $35 per day and each day after was $40 per day. The cost of 12 days is $430 plus $50 pickup fee. I remember paying Chrysler $1,822.59, which included $350.00 for repossession, storage, repair and preparation costs (to Date). Is this correct practice or is it because my surname is Spanish? I believe that I am paying "again," twice for the same service to Chrysler and Knights Towing Service employed by Chrysler.

In summary, I owed less then $1,450.00, before Chrysler repossessed my vehicle. Please, keep in mind that I never refused to pay. I demonstrated a "serious intent to pay," by paying (2 payments of $620 per month) $1,240 per month.

I have paid $2525.18 in payments. Hopefully, I will get reimbursed for one payment of $222.59. This will bring my total payments $2302.59. I look forward to hearing from you soon concerning this matter.

Do you work for Chrysler? You seem to have the a lot of similarity with the people that I have spoken to.

I am sure that you feel completely satisfied by quoting the rules and regulations that you learned. But you are not seeing the corrupt mentality of your thoughts. You are very arrogant. "You need to get over it." You need to realize that there must be a better way to solve these problems.   Everybody is not trying to cheat Chrysler!
