TORRANCE, Calif (September 30, 1998) - As the pioneer in
the luxury sport utility market, Acura offers its entry in the competitive category for
1999, the SLX. Designed
for everyday driving and rugged exploration, the SLX combines best-in-class
features, a powerful engine and a myriad of luxury amenities to create one multi-use
vehicle that meets a great many needs.
The 1999 SLX features a
sophisticated four-wheel drive powertrain with a powerful 3.5 liter, DOHC V-6 engine,
producing 215-horsepower. The standard Torque-On-Demand fourwheel-drive system, which is
activated at the touch of a button, transfers power to where it is needed most, making the
SLX one of the smoothest
operating four-wheel-drives on the road today. In addition, the engine features a
"power mode" for increased acceleration when necessary and a "winter
mode" that starts the vehicle in third gear for enhanced torque control in slippery
conditions.
The SLX is offered in one fully
equipped model featuring leather-trimmed interior, safari-sized power moon roof, power
windows and door locks, air conditioning, heated front seats, power fold-in mirrors and
wood-grain trim. Other interior appointments include an electronic multimeter, which
contains a compass, altimeter, thermometer and barometer. Also standard are automatic
cruise control system, ANI/FM cassette/CD audio system and full instrumentation featuring
a liquid crystal display (LCD) odometer and trip meter.
Offering one of the longest wheelbases in its class, the SLX features a
double-wishbone front suspension and multilink rear suspension delivering controlled
off-highway driving and a smooth ride on the open road. The SLX offers ventilated front
and rear disc brakes and a fourwheel Antilock Braking System (ABS).
Safety has been a key component of the SLX since its inception and
is delivered by way of standard "crumple zones" and side-protection door beams,
driver's and passenger's front SRS air bags and three-point front and outboard rear seat
belts. In addition, the vehicles prominent stance offers excellent visibility.
The SLX's styling exhibits
a rugged look, featuring an Acura-family grille, alloy wheels and body-colored side
mirrors. Rear styling includes the popular 70/30 vertical split rear doors, which
consumers have come to appreciate when loading and unloading the versatile sport-utility
vehicle. The SLX also
boasts one of the most expansive cargo areas in its class, more than 90 cubic feet with
the rear seat folded up.
Like all Acura models, the SLX is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.
