Audi A8: More room to travel, think and work

The Audi A8’s success story started back in 1994. Innovative concepts such as the Audi Space Frame (ASF), the aluminium body, V8 engines with five valves per cylinder and quattro permanent four-wheel drive complemented the Audi A8’s undating, contemporary styling and emphasised its unique standing in the premium segment competitive field.

With this long-wheelbase version, Audi now introduces a particularly luxurious Audi A8. Initially, it will be available with a powerful 228 kW (310 bhp) 4.2 litre five-valve V8 engine and with quattro permanent four-wheel drive and standard 5-speed tiptronic transmission. The A8 long-wheelbase model can be obtained from the middle of August onwards at a basic price of DM 146,500 incl. VAT (EUR 74,904.26). The German market launch is scheduled for the 4th quarter of 1999.

With its advanced technology, exclusive interior, comprehensive standard equipment and unusually generous amount of space in the rear seat area, the Audi A8 long-wheelbase model is an ideal form of luxurious, elegant long-distance passenger transport.

The A8 long-wheelbase model is entering a market segment that accounts for 15 percent of the European and almost 45 percent of the world’s premium car segment.

The Design

The Audi A8’s well proportioned, powerful and sporting styling loses nothing in terms of elegance in spite of the long-wheelbase version’s overall length of 5,164 millimetres. With its clear, extended lines the long-wheelbase design also communicates the characteristics typically associated with the Audi A8: dynamism and agility.

Painstaking, detailed craftsmanship is a matter of course. With its reduced panel gap dimensions, the body of the Audi A8 long-wheelbase model symbolises genuine value and longevity.

The Audi A8’s wheelbase has been extended by 130 mm for the long version. The growth in body length has been most elegantly incorporated between the B and D-posts. The rear doors, which are also 130 mm longer, blend harmoniously into the dynamic side line. Getting in and out of the car is now so much easier.
