VVISIONS ARE BORN OF PASSION - THE AUDI A12

Clear, smooth surfaces and an aerodynamically optimized form: the design of the Audi Al2 is oriented to the future. Its taut surfaces and eye-catching edges point to the influence of airship engineering. The result: a unique, confident appearance. The concept: the maximum use of space combined with minimum space requirements. Aerodynamic lines and a discreet rear spoiler produce a sensationally low cd rating of 0.25. And cleverly designed details improve the car's ergonomic qualities and comfort.

We are not just concerned about quantitative values but emotional ones as well: having fun driving and experiencing both function and beauty. That's why the Al2 doesn't look like other cars. Just like the Audi of tomorrow's world.

The Design of the Audi A12
The concept behind the Al2 has been implemented even in the tiniest details of its construction with lightness and high-quality design reflected in its exclusive accessories. For example the picnic basket with a built-in folding table where a glass top matches the roof construction in its transparency and colours. Or the somewhat different buggy: its ultra-light, fold-away titanium frame can be fastened to the rear seat and a child seat mounted on the frame - in no time at all.

The interior of the Al2 offers plenty of space for four people. The vehicle concept makes it possible. Passengers sit around 10 cm higher than in a normal compact car. That gives the driver a better view and backseat passengers more head- and legroom. The result is a much more comfortable ride and an impressive experience of roominess - despite considerably reduced exterior dimensions.

But that's not all: we even tailor-made a set of cases to fit the false bottom of the luggage compartment. Here, too, the design language of the Al2 is expressed in the shape of the case handles - matching that of the door handles.

Aluminum Body and Components
The Al2 is the first car in its class with a full aluminium body and many other components made of aluminium. This makes it 25% lighter than cars which offer a comparable amount of space. And the lighter a vehicle is, the less energy is required to move it.

The second-generation Audi Space Frame (ASF) used here is based on experience gained with the Audi A8. But one new feature is the use of laser welding technology on the aluminium body. The A8 has proved that the overall energy balance achieved by using aluminium clearly supports its application in automotive engineering. And that applies in particular when recycled aluminium is used.
