"Last year we recorded 8 accidents for every one million working hours. This is the lowest value ever achieved in the company's history. We aim to sustain this success and build on it in future", said Jürgen Gebhardt, Member of the AUDI AG Board of Management responsible for Production, at today's presentation of the 1998 Audi Industrial Safety Award in Ingolstadt. Gebhardt went on to emphasise that industrial safety represents an integral part of the company's economic success. He also said: "Safety in the workplace is a prerequisite for the high level of quality present in the production area and our products." Audi is a manufacturer and producer of high-grade cars operating globally. It runs production operations in Germany, Hungary, Brazil, China and South Africa. In 1998 Audi built approximately 619,000 cars and more than 1.2 million engines. Turnover was 27.2 billion German marks (DM) and profit before tax 1.7 billion DM. The Audi Group has approximately 42,000 employees. |
