At the Product Design Awards 1999, the iF Industry Forum Design Hanover awarded the Audi TT Coupé the iF Seal of Approval for design excellence. An international jury including the famous designer Paloma Picasso and businessman Reinhard Flötotto assessed a total of 1,364 products from 28 countries. 224 of these received the coveted iF Seal of Approval.

The award was presented at the CeBIT exhibition in Hanover during a celebration event involving around 300 guests from the worlds of industry, politics and design. Peter Schreyer, Head of Design at AUDI AG, commented: "We’re delighted by this award. It confirms yet again Audi’s high standard of design. For us, the Audi TT Coupé is the realization of a vision. We’ve developed it without compromise, with passionate commitment and a love of detail, all the way from the design study to the production model and we’ve created a modern sports car that will arouse fascination and pure emotion."

The iF award for design excellence was conferred last year on the Audi A3 and Audi A6. In 1998, the Audi A3 also received the German Product Design Prize.

The iF Industry Forum Hanover, which was set up in 1953 under the name "Good Industrial Design", is regarded throughout the world as one of the leading bodies in the field of industrial design. Each year, with its Product Design Awards, the iF bestows its Seal of Approval on products of outstandingly functional and innovative design.
