BMW AG UNVEILS ADDITION TO BMW ART CAR COLLECTION
Fifteenth Art Car
Concept Created by American Artist Jenny Holzer

With the Holzer Art Car, the BMW Art Car program returns to its racing origins in the world-famous 24 Hour race at LeMans. The Holzer Art Car will debut at this year's race June 12 and 13, when it will make an honorary lap around the circuit. The artist will be present at the unveiling.
For the fifteenth addition to BMW's Art Car Collection, Jenny Holzer, one of the most renowned American artists of this century, has clothed a BMW V12 LMR with her written art. It represents a new and singular dimension in art. Holzer combines the medium of language with an object which she then places within a particular context. Her constructions and highly technological presentations, shining from walls and chiseled into stone, have gained a special standing in contemporary art.
For this project, a BMW V2 LMR racing sportscar will be the medium for her statements. "PROTECT ME FROM WHAT I WANT," Jenny Holzer's most famous statement, will be part of her foray into the world of motorsports. The concept will be part of the traditional markings, colors and graphics of racing car design.
The BMW Art Car was conceived in 1975, the year that French auctioneer and race driver Herve Poulain first entered LeMans. Searching for a link between art and motorsports, he asked his friend Alexander Calder, to commission a rolling canvas on the BMW 3.0 CSL he would race.
