Additional shifts to cope with the high level of demand for BMW automobiles world-wide

World-wide demand for BMW brand automobiles- especially the models of the new 3 Series saloons that were launched in April 1998 - has reached extraordinary levels. From April 1999, the second variant of the new 3 Series will also be available - the 3 Series coupé, which has also caused quite a stir in the market. For this reason, the BMW Group and the Works Council have agreed to introduce additional production times in the car plants, within the scope of the flexible working hours scheme.

Ernst Baumann, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Human Resources commented, "Two elements have come together superbly well here: the high value put on our products, on the one hand, and the flexibility of our workforce on the other. The first element ensures that demand for BMW automobiles is pleasingly high, and the second is what makes it possible to meet these market requirements properly. We should like to thank our staff for their commitment and the Works Council for their understanding of the commercial situation, which enables us to make use of the production plants at a higher than average rate."
