Location of BMW Motorsport Limited in Grove
to reinforce Formula 1 project

Munich. The location of BMW Motorsport Limited in Grove/England will reinforce the joint Formula 1 project undertaken by BMW and Williams in the future. After preparations for the Le Mans race in two weeks time went into top gear at Grove, the work in the second half of the year there will concentrate on the return to Formula 1.

Many of the personnel and much of the technical resources of BMW Motorsport in England will then be taken on by Williams and used for the joint engagement in Formula 1. The BMW V10 engine will continue to be developed and built in Munich for the Formula 1 races in the coming season.

"Our declared goal for the 1999 season is a good result at the Le Mans 24-Hour Race," says Motorsport Director Gerhard Berger, "but apart from that, the main focus is our return to Formula 1. As to how we will be continuing with other motorsport projects alongside this one in the coming millennium, is currently the subject of discussion."

The participation of two BMW V12 LMR at the French classic endurance race at Le Mans on 12/13 June, is the highlight of the sports car project being executed in cooperation with Williams. The roadster with Munich's BMW V12 engine is then scheduled to take part in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).

The BMW V12 LMR made a great debut in the new series of races in March: the racing car, with Tom Kristensen, JJ Lehto and Jörg Müller at the wheel, was the winner of the first race of the season, the Sebring 12-Hour Race in Florida (USA).
