GM Sells 497,047 Vehicles in June, Best Month in Over 10 Years
Customers across the United States bought or leased 497,047 GM vehicles in June for the corporation's best sales month since May 1989. In addition, truck sales for the month, at 238,420 units, were the second best in corporate history, down just 0.4 percent from June 1998, the best truck month ever for GM. Car sales totaled 258,627 units, up 2 percent. Total vehicle sales were up 0.8 percent.
At the half-way point in the calendar year, vehicle sales are 1.2 percent ahead of the year-ago pace, at 2,557,954 units. Car sales are up 2.7 percent; truck sales are down 0.3 percent.

"While June was the best month we've had in over 10 years and we're up year to date, it's clear we can still improve in areas where we are strong, such as mid-size cars and full-size trucks, and we want to bring more strength to areas such as small and luxury cars," says Roy Roberts, vice president of GM North America Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing.
