BUICK AND NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SEARCH FOR VOLUNTEER FAMILIES, REWARD TEACHERS

Buick's Century Brand Team has joined with the National Geographic Society and grade school teachers nationwide to assist in their search for families involved in their communities. The search is part of an essay contest that runs through July 31 and will determine Buick's "Family of the Century."

Descriptive material featuring volunteerism and community involvement was recently sent to more than 25,000 teachers nationwide of grades 4-8 who subscribe to classroom lesson plans through National Geographic. Teachers were invited to encourage their students to submit a 100-word essay on their family's volunteer efforts. Teachers who demonstrated support of the "Family of the Century" essay contest with their students are invited to submit an entry form to National Geographic.

One winning teacher will be selected by the National Geographic Society to be invited, along with the grand prize winning "Family of the Century" winner, to visit and tour the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. Ten second prize winning teachers will be awarded $500 certificates to purchase classroom tools from the National Geographic Education catalog.

For the "Family of the Century" essay contest, a panel of judges will select one grand prize family who will receive a new Buick Century and a Walt Disney World vacation from Buick. Century will also donate $10,000 to the charity selected by the grand prize winning family. GM employees and their families are not eligible.
