GM MAKES MAJOR COMMITMENT TO 100 BLACK MEN OF AMERICA "MIRACLES OF MENTORING" PROGRAM

GM announced a gift of $500,000 to the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. "Miracles of Mentoring Campaign" at a news conference at Cobo Hall. Rod Gillum, GM's vice president for corporate relations and diversity said "This gift is the latest in a long-standing commitment by General Motors to 100 Black Men of America programs designed to prepare America's youth for the future."

GM Chairman Jack Smith is co-chair of the campaign. GM is a major supporter of 100 Black Men of America, both nationally and at the local Detroit chapter level. In 1999, GM donated $85,000 to the local chapter, the majority of which went to mentoring programs. The national organization has received well over $50,000 from GM in each of the last three years to support the national conferences. In addition, a number of GM executives, including Rod Gillum, volunteer their time and efforts as mentors.

The 100 Black Men of America 13th Annual National Conference is taking place in Detroit this week. General Motors and the Cadillac Motor Car Division are presenting sponsors of the conference.
