GM RECALLS CERTAIN CADILLAC SEVILLE
VEHICLES
GM is recalling some 1998 model year Cadillac Seville vehicles built late in the model year and approximately 35,000 1999 model year Cadillac Seville vehicles. The 1998 vehicles were built in August 1998, and have vehicle identification numbers greater than WU934376.
An electrical short in the generator of these vehicles may cause an engine compartment fire, even with the engine off and key removed. There have been seven confirmed reports of fires as a result of this condition, none of which have caused injuries.
"We want our customers to know that we consider this a serious condition," says John Smith, Cadillac general manager. "We have started the process of contacting customers so that they can have their vehicles serviced as soon as possible at their Cadillac dealer. We also want them to know that Cadillac is taking extra measures to minimize any inconvenience, including providing courtesy cars until the repair can be made."
As an added precaution, because the fire could spread, Cadillac strongly recommends the involved vehicles not be parked in an enclosed area, such as a garage, until the vehicle is brought into the dealership.
