NFL Golf Classic donates to Tomorrows Children's Fund
and NFL Charities
The Cadillac NFL Golf Classic
brings together the biggest stars of the NFL and Senior PGA Tour and also brings out the
best in the human spirit. Since its inception in 1993, the Cadillac NFL Golf Classic has
helped raise more than $1.5 million for worthy charities both near the event's home, in
Clifton, N.J., and around the country. The Cadillac NFL Golf Classic will make its drive
for charity in 1999 as the event returns to the Upper Montclair Country Club from May 31-June 6 for a week of exciting special events and golf
competition.
Funds generated by the Cadillac NFL Golf Classic will benefit NFL Charities across the
country, as well as the designated local charity, Tomorrows Children's Fund (TCF). Located
at the Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, N.J., TCF provides counseling,
recreational outlets and support services for children and families of children battling
cancer and other serious blood disorders.
The Cadillac NFL Golf Classic also touches the lives of people in communities across the
United States through the NFL Charities. The top 26 finishers out of the field of 56 NFL
players are competing for a piece of the $160,000 purse. Each player designates their
winnings to a charity of their choice through the NFL charities.
"We are very proud of the contributions the Cadillac NFL Golf Classic has made to the
Tomorrows Children's Fund and the NFL players' designated charities," said Martin
Walsh, Cadillac marketing services manager. "Since we became the umbrella of the
Senior Tour and televisions sponsor of the Cadillac Senior Tour Series in 1990, more than
$36 million has been raised for worthy causes all over the country."
With the money raised by the 1998 Cadillac NFL Golf Classic, TCF funded its Creative Arts
Program. The program provides a comfortable setting, similar to that of a nursery school,
for kids ages 3-5 undergoing medical procedures such as chemotherapy and spinal taps. In
the program, the children work with dolls and trained counselors to cope with the fear and
anxiety of their situation.
A special Cadillac NFL Golf Classic room is used for children's physicals and to begin
chemotherapy or blood products infusion, if needed. The room is decorated with a montage
of Senior PGA Tour players, NFL players and Marvel Comics Super Heroes. The montage was
created during the 1994 Cadillac NFL Golf Classic by John Romita, Sr., the acclaimed
illustrator of many legendary marvel Comics Super Heroes such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, and
the X-Men.
1998 winner Trent Dilfer of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers donated $30,000 to the fellowship of
Christian Athletes. Other NFL charities included the Make A Wish Foundation, The American
Cancer Society and several local Boys and Girls Clubs.
