2000 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO IS VALUE-PRICED

"Classy With a Wild Streak" Mid-Size Coupe Begins At $19,850

Monte Carlo

DETROIT - The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of Chevrolet's all-new 2000 model year Monte Carlo will start at $19,850 (including destination charge) for the LS model and $22,295 for the performance-oriented SS when they begin arriving at dealer showrooms next month.

"Monte Carlo is a very distinctive, personal driving machine that surrounds you with performance in a premium environment,"said Kurt Ritter, Chevrolet's general manager. "Now with these prices you can add the term 'affordable' to the equation, rounding out our value-price story."

The new Monte Carlo LS comes standard with a 3400 SFI (Sequential Fuel Injection) V6 engine and the SS comes standard with the award-winning 3800 SFI V6. Both coupes offer five-passenger seating, a NASCAR-inspired cockpit, 4-wheel independent suspension, the versatility of a 60/40 split folding rear seat for additional cargo carrying capability, among others value features. "

Coupe buyers want a car that will get them noticed on the road," said Don Parkinson, Monte Carlo brand manager. "That's why the new Monte Carlo is such a great fit for the mid-size coupe market. It's a car that you'll recognize instantly on the street, and our research told us that's what today's customers want."

The new dramatic styling retains the long, sloping hood, short rear deck and wide stance that have long been the signature of the Monte Carlo brand for the last 30 years. "Meld the visual appearance with our unparalleled combination of solid structure, excellent engine power and efficiency, and performance suspension components," noted Parkinson, "and you get a vehicle that we call 'classy with a wild streak.' The side you show the world is up to you."

The new Monte Carlo is built at GM's Oshawa, Ontario, manufacturing facility -- the #1-rated mid-size assembly plant for initial product quality, adding further to this Chevrolet's impressive value story.

In addition, the 2000 Monte Carlo value story includes a host of standard features that either are not offered or are extra cost options on many of its competitors. They include largest-in-class four-wheel disc brakes; ABS; 16-inch tires and wheels; daytime running lamps; automatic headlamp control; three-point lap/shoulder belts in the outboard positions and child seat tether anchors in all three rear seating positions. Among the list of available Monte Carlo features not offered on most competitive makes in its class are a tire inflation monitor system, Radio Data System (RDS) technology, and OnStar's combination cellular phone and Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite system.
