Inspired by the sleek, slender-horned African antelope of the same name, the first Chevrolet Impala is a sporty sedan

The beautiful shape of Impala is a marriage of style and logic. The style is clean-lined and expressive. The logic includes an aero design that contributes to a quiet ride, a spacious six-passenger interior within an efficient-size exterior, and large glass area for excellent visibility in all directions.

The impala's  standard 3400 V6 engine delivers 180 horsepower at 5200 rpm. You'll love the smooth, powerful response. For even more power, a 200-horsepower, 3800 V6 is optional in Impala Sedan and standard in Impala LS Sedan. Both Impala models also feature four-wheel disc brakes and a tuned four-wheel independent suspension.

In Impala, advanced technology lets you drive up to 100,000 miles before the first scheduled spark plug replacement.* For beauty that will endure, all body panels except the roof are constructed of rust-resistant two-sided galvanized steel, and basecoat/clearcoat exterior paint provides a durable "wet look" shine.

The clean, flowing lines take your eye from the front of the vehicle all the way to the rear, without interruption. Composite halogen headlights are seamlessly integrated to create a streamlined appearance. The beautiful shape of the 2000 Impala creates a contemporary, visually appealing sedan destined to become the new benchmark.

From the very earliest concept phase, safety was a priority in the design of Impala. Standard features include driver and front-passenger air bags,* a steel safety cage surrounding the entire passenger compartment, energy-absorbing front and rear body structures, Automatic Daytime Running Lamps and four-wheel disc brakes. Additional standard features in the Impala LS include a side-impact air bag for the driver, four-wheel antilock brakes and a tire inflation monitoring system.

Impala Sedan offers a split-bench front seat and spacious seating for six, with the stretch-out comfort that makes driving a pleasure. Front bucket seats are optional in the Impala LS. Leather seating surfaces are optional in both models.

All interior colors of Impala are such that they flow together in one harmonious blend. Impala Sedan and LS come with standard air conditioning and a wide variety of sound system options. Rear-seat passengers in Impala are treated to "theatre seating," which allows them to see down the road clearly.
