How do you improve the world's most dependable, longest-lasting full-size pickup?*

You make it bigger, faster, stronger and smarter. You build the all-new Silverado from Chevrolet.

A truck has a job to do, and our full-size C/K Pickup did it about as well as could be done. But we knew we could build an even better truck. And we did.

Replacing a legend is never easy. So we built a new benchmark - The 1999 Silverado from Chevrolet. Like a rock.

It has the most powerful V8 of any pickup truck.**

The real test of a truck engine is when you're towing a trailer or transporting heavy cargo. The new Vortec 4800, 5300 and 6000 V8 SFI engines have been designed with these functions specifically in mind. The Vortec 4800 and 5300 engines have more power and a longer, flatter torque curve than their predecessors, while all of these new engines provide even better overall reliability. To prove it, we put them through more real-world testing than any engines in our history. You may not always need a more powerful engine. But the next time you’re pulling your boat to the lake, you'll be glad you've got a new Vortec V8 under the hood.

More "Big" ideas in Silverado include:

  • BIGGER INTERIOR
The new Silverado has more rear-seat legroom than our previous model, and has more front-seat volume of any half-ton pickup. In addition, Silverado has 32% more front-seat travel than our previous model, providing more seating positions and better access to stored items.
  • BIGGER BRAKES
The biggest brakes of any half-ton pickup for more stopping power and more brake pad life – up to four times the life span of our previous model.
  • LARGER GLASS AREA
The windshield and all other windows in Silverado have been enlarged for enhanced driver and passenger visibility. Windshield wipers have been upgraded for smoother and quieter performance. At 22 inches, they're two inches longer than those on the full-size 1998 C/K Pickup.
  • BIGGER REAR CARGO AREA
With the rear seats folded up, Silverado has 22% more storage room than our previous model..

*Dependability based on longevity: 1981–1997 full-size, light-duty pickup registrations including Chassis Cabs. Excludes other GM products. Silverado products are generally faster than the models they replace. However, certain combinations will yield different results.

**Based on available Vortec 6000 V8. Excludes other GM vehicles. Silverado products are generally faster than the models they replace. However, certain combination will yield different results.
