DaimlerChrysler concept cars aren't just pretty faces.

Environmentally friendly technologies sit under the hoods of the latest concept vehicles developed. Unveiled at the 1999 North American International Auto Show, this year's fleet of DaimlerChrysler design dreams feature demonstrations of alternative fuels and power sources.

The Dodge Charger, Chrysler Citadel, Jeep® Commander and Dodge Power Wagon display the future technologies that may well replace gasoline as a means of fueling cars and trucks.

The objective: vehicles that run cleaner, faster and more efficiently, all at a reasonable cost to consumers. While there is no definite alternative to gasoline-powered cars and trucks, the 1999 concept vehicles offer a case study in the possibilities that await tomorrow's drivers. This report looks at what DaimlerChrysler researchers and engineers have in mind for powering the cars of the 21st century.
