ALL NEW 1999 CHRYSLER LHS - THE MOST LUXURIOUS CHRYSLER EVER

The all-new 1999 Chrysler LHS is designed for those who want an American automobile that makes a statement with its sophisticated styling and luxurious appointments, yet has all the handling characteristics of an athletic touring sedan.

Building on the Chrysler brand's rich heritage of design leadership and engineering excellence, the 1999 LHS emulates the fine craftsmanship of classic automobiles of the past while offering a blend of performance and agile handling that is certain to attract a new generation of buyers.

"The 1999 Chrysler LHS offers buyers the highest level of luxury with a design that is even more graceful and elegant than the previous LHS," said Martin R. Levine, General Manager - Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep® Division. "It also builds on Chrysler's heritage of innovative engineering by offering even better overall performance and handling."

With its sloping roof line and more aggressive stance, the 1999 Chrysler LHS combines the look and feel of a sport coupe with the functionality of a four-door, five-passenger sedan. The 1999 LHS is engineered using the next-generation of Chrysler's landmark cab-forward design, which provides maximum interior and cargo room. Cab-forward design pushes the wheels to the corners while increasing both cabin and cargo space. Standard 17-inch aluminum wheels accent the classic look, with chrome wheels offered as an option.

The same attention to detail that is evident on the LHS's stunning exterior is found throughout its spacious interior, which is filled with premium features. The chrome-ringed interior gauges, for example, blend the lettering style and design of fine Swiss watches with electroluminescent lighting, a re-emerging technology that was used on Chrysler's 1996 LHX concept car. Complementing the gauges is an analog clock, placed in the center of a winged relief, which suggests a classic, timeless design.

Flush-mounted stereo and ventilation controls are arranged in a "center stack" bezel that flows into the center console. Heated front leather seats with personalized memory controls for the driver are standard, as are four-way adjustable head restraints. Also standard in every Chrysler LHS is a trunk "pass-through" behind the center armrest in the rear seat, which allows access to the luggage compartment. Other standard features include next-generation dual front air bags*, a personalized memory system for the driver's seat, mirrors and radio settings, a premium Infinity® I compact disc/cassette sound system and a vehicle security system with the Sentry KeyTM engine immobilizer.

The 1999 Chrysler LHS is powered by an all-aluminum, 24-valve, 3.5-liter, V-6 engine rated at 253 horsepower (189 kW). This new high-output engine is the best-performing normally aspirated V-6 on the market today, with more torque and horsepower than many other engines of vehicles in its class. Through extensive use of computer simulations, Chrysler engineers maximized all air-flow systems, resulting in higher output-per-liter. Anti-lock brakes and low-speed traction control are also standard.

The original Chrysler LHS, introduced for the 1994 model-year, played an instrumental role in redefining the Chrysler brand and providing it with a premium entry in the full-size sedan segment. The 1999 Chrysler LHS accelerates this momentum with its stunning, yet elegant design both inside and out, first explored on the 1996 Chrysler LHX concept car.

"Combine the Chrysler brand vehicle lineup and you will see we offer a premium entry in almost every segment, including convertibles, minivans and sedans," said Levine. "With each new product, we've been able to expand the appeal of the Chrysler brand to a new buyer who is younger and more affluent. The all-new Chrysler LHS continues that trend by adding even more appeal."
