Voluntary Recalls of Minivans
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., - DaimlerChrysler AG is voluntarily recalling more than 2.1 million Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager minivans.
About 1.4 million 1991-93 minivans are being called back to fix windshield wipers and inspect strut-securing bolts on rear liftgates.
The automaker says there have been "a few reports" of people injured by falling liftgates due to strut bolts separating from the vehicle body. Previously DaimlerChrysler's 1992 minivans were recalled for similar liftgate repairs.
DaimlerChrysler says it has no reports of accidents or injuries linked to the windshield wiper problem, which can cause wipers to stop working.
Separately today, the automaker is calling back 743,000 1996 minivans to replace fuel-pump lock nuts and gaskets that may malfunction and leak.
DaimlerChrysler says leaking fuel from the affected vehicles has been linked to reports of six minor under-body fires, none involving injuries.
The repairs will be free. The automaker says owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail next month and asked to arrange service appointments at dealerships.
