Dodge Introduces the new Cummins 24-Valve Turbo Diesel
Dodge Truck and Cummins have again teamed up to offer the next generation
of the legendary Cummins B-Series 5.9-liter Turbo Diesel engine. The new Cummins
24-valveTurbo Diesel offers superior reliability and durability, the best fuel economy in
the industry, low life-cycle costs and a simple design with up to 40 percent fewer parts
than competitive diesels. The advanced new Cummins 24-valve Turbo Diesel engine is
available only on 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 HD and 3500 pickups.

Some of the new diesels highlights:
- New 24-valve cylinder head offers improved air and coolant flow, more torque over a
wider range and improved fuel economy with reduced emissions
- New cylinder block design for maximum strength and reduced noise
- The water pump, oil pump, cooler housings and coolant bypass are all integrated to
eliminate potential leak points. Average block life to overhaul is 400,000 miles
- New electronically controlled fuel system improves engine control, driving performance,
engine cleanliness and provides engine vehicle diagnostics
- New Bosch VP44 Electronic Fuel Injection Pump has higher injection pressures,
electronic-controlled timing and fueling for precise, instant control
- Direct injection uses 100 percent of fuel to provide power, eliminating pre-chamber
ignition used in indirect injection systems
- New engine-matched Holset turbocharger is custom-designed for high-speed ratings and
wastegated for improved engine performance at all speeds
- Integrated air intake grid heater improves cold-starting and eliminates white smoke
- Intercooler improves combustion efficiency by providing cool air flow to the turbo
