The
1999 Dodge Durango

It's a whole new territory for the
sport utility. The Durango offers the most horsepower and towing capacity in its
domestic class.
INTERIOR FEATURES & COMFORTS
Not only is Durangos interior one of the largest in its class, it just may be the
most accommodating, too. You'll find up to 25 cup holders, compartments, cubbyholes, trays
and in-floor bins. Thats some kind of storage capability. Theres a handy
rotary headlamp switch, plus dual overhead reading lamps.

Durango SLT Plus offers an in-dash CD player with multiple speakers and
steering wheel-mounted controls allow remote operation of most audio functions.
The available six-way power front bucket seat has 4-stage lumbar adjustments. Both front
bucket seats travel forward and back -- up to 8.6 inches. Carry as many as eight
people with the available front 40/20/40 split bench and available folding third seat. As
a five- or six-seater you get more leg room for rear passengers and additional floor
storage compartment.
And those in back can get their own air conditioning. Durangos available rear
overhead unit has four
independently adjustable vents with a dedicated fan control.
With second and third seats folded, you have 88 cubic feet of cargo area -- one of the
largest in its class. With the second-row seat up, you still have 51 cubic feet of
storage.
DURANGO'S EXTERIOR FEATURES
Its look is unmistakable. Muscular, aggressive, sculpted. This is the design that
reinterpreted the compact sport-utility vehicle... Add its monochromatic paint treatment,
available fog lamps and dual, black 5"x7" exterior mirrors and you get the look
of Durango.
On top of everything else, Durango gets two color coats. Both are water-based to reduce
harmful petrochemical emissions. These two coats are sealed with a Clear Coat specially
formulated to resist
etching from acid rain, bird droppings and degradation from sunlight.
Durango, like life, is about choices. Check out your options in colors, trims and wheels.
Two new colors for 1999-- Bright Platinum Metallic and Patriot Blue.
DURANGO'S TOUGHNESS
Dodge Durango gives you the strength and capacities to do more and go farther.
How does Durango stay ahead? It takes a lot of pull. The 4x2, with the standard 5.2-liter
V8 pulls up to 6,000 pounds. The 5.9-liter V8? Up to 7,600 pounds. Heavy stuff.
In that 88 cubic feet of cargo space you get when the rear seats are folded, youll
find four D-ring
anchors. They make it easy to secure loads in the rear cargo area.
Need to carry even more? Look up:the roof rack is standard.
DURANGO'S PERFORMANCE
The standard 5.2-liter V8 packs 230 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. And the daddy
of them all, the optional 5.9-liter Magnum V8 with 245 horsepower, combined with the
optional Trailer Tow Group and properly equipped, gives you two best-in-class ratings:
towing and GCWR. Durango
can tow up to 7,600 pounds and haul up to 12,200 pounds of gross combined weight.
Even with its high, 7.9" ground clearance, Durango gives you terrific handling
attributes.
Among its domestic competitors, Durango 4x4 has longest-in-class 115.9" wheelbase and
widest-in-class 62" track. Yet Durango offers a tight turning diameter of just 38.9'.
The Durango 4x4 models independent front suspension uses torsion bars for improved
on- and off-road stability. The suspensions lower control arm is a sturdy casting,
not a stamping like many of the competitors.
Durangos S-shaped rear leaf spring suspension helps minimize the crack the
whip effect vehicles experience in turns. This S-shaped single-stage design also
gives Durango a smoother ride than those sport utilities with multistage springs that
give less. |
