DODGE INTREPID BLENDS PASSION WITH PERSONALITY FOR 1999Dodge Intrepid is the perfect answer for those seeking a sedan with style, sport and sense between one set of bumpers. For 1999, Dodge Intrepid gets even better.Completely redesigned for 1998, the Intrepid's well-appointed driving environment now receives upgraded carpeting, a new headliner and enhanced interior fabrics and leather seating surfaces. A new stitched boot for the gearshift lever (late availability) provides an enhanced look to the overall interior. Dynamically, the 1999 Dodge Intrepid and Intrepid ES benefit from more robust sway bar links and tubular trailing arms, to be phased into production mid-model year. Both add to interior ride isolation without sacrificing driver control. For enhanced security, Chrysler's exclusive Sentry KeyTM is now available as an option. Under the hood, the performance side of the equation comes into play with the invigorating aluminum 2.7-liter, 24-valve, V-6 engine, standard in the Intrepid. Its 200 horsepower rating provides the highest horsepower-per-liter rating in its class while delivering outstanding fuel efficiency. Intrepid ES is powered by an all-aluminum 3.2-liter V-6 that delivers 225 horsepower through a fully adaptive electronic four-speed AutoStick® transmission. AutoStick offers the convenience of an automatic with the control of a manual. "The 1999 Dodge Intrepid is for those who want an exhilarating driving experience, yet who also need a sedan that can comfortably seat five or six," said Jim Julow, General Manager - Dodge Division. "It's all about combining the best attributes that buyers have come to expect from Dodge - the blending of passion with practicality." Specific design cues for the 1999 Dodge Intrepid include a prominent "cross hair" grille, as well as an aggressive stance from any angle - a theme now seen in every new Dodge car and truck. Intrepid's roofline and shortened rear deck result in a coupe-like profile, and help to reduce the Cd (coefficient of drag) to .300. That's on par with some of the world's most aerodynamic sport coupes. Inside, Dodge Intrepid's interior carries over the sporty theme of the car's exterior, yet is flexible enough to accommodate up to six passengers. With its light colored gauges and a hooded design to shield them from reflection, designers developed a commanding, yet inviting driver's cockpit to support Intrepid's strong performance image. Features within the 1999 Dodge Intrepid include flush-mounted stereo and ventilation system controls and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat (ES) to increase versatility between carrying passengers and cargo. Dual next-generation air bags*, a patented dynamic side-impact protection body design and available anti-lock brakes enhance safety. The 1999 Dodge Intrepid competes in a market segment that includes models such as Pontiac Grand Prix and Bonneville, Ford Taurus, Chevrolet Lumina and Toyota Camry. "When customers compare the 1999 Dodge Intrepid to its competition, they will see first hand how we raised the bar by offering superior styling, packaging and power, all at a very attractive price," said Julow. |
