DODGE NEON STAYS HOT FOR 1999 Fresh from a significant updating for 1998, which included the introduction of the red hot R/T model, Dodge Neon enters 1999 as a fun, fresh, high-value alternative throughout all segments of the small car market.Already known for its class-leading handling, power and generous interior room, the Dodge Neon is again offered in three easy-to-order packages, plus a limited-volume American Club Racing (ACR) package for those who wish to race on Sunday and commute on Monday. All Neons received significant upgrades for 1998, aimed at providing higher levels of value and refinement. For 1999, Neon complies with California's stringent Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) standards. Standard safety items include next-generation driver and front passenger air bags*, height-adjustable seat belts, locking front seat adjustable head restraints and dynamic side-impact intrusion protection. "Neon's 1998 sales surged to record levels, providing buyers with a great balance of style, fun and value," noted Joe Caddell, General Product Manager, Small Car Platform. "The new Neon R/T model received rave reviews, which gained attention for the rest of the line, including the higher level of standard equipment." Building on Dodge Neon's ACR success, the 1999 Neon R/T offers true driving performance, and includes most of the hardware that led the Neon to SCCA Class "C" Showroom Stock National titles in 1995, 1996 and 1997. Underneath its wide dual "Viper stripes" with a Flame Red, Intense Blue, Black or Bright White exterior color is a 150 horsepower, 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve engine with a performance-tuned engine controller. This "pocket rocket" powerplant is mated to a quick-shifting five-speed manual transmission. Inside, Dodge Neon R/T carries on its performance driver theme with unique bucket seats, leather steering wheel cover and leather shift knob. Keeping the R/T flat in the corners is a sport suspension with unique springs and sway bars both front and rear, along with new rear spring isolators. A responsive 16:1 steering gear ratio, four-wheel-disc brakes and unique aluminum 14-inch wheels round out the package. The "Highline" Neon for 1999 features a long list of standard features, including upgraded interior, low-back bucket seats, remote trunk release and fold-down rear seat, making it an exceptional value. The Neon "Sport" rounds out the offerings and includes the robust 150 horsepower, 2.0-liter, DOHC engine, special exterior graphics, 14-inch sport wheel covers, fog lamps, "Rumba/Tango" cloth interior, plus all of the "Highline" package features. A well equipped Neon Sport, including the potent 150 hp engine, can be had for the cost of most entry-level Japanese brand competitors. "Dollar for dollar, Neon is tough to beat no matter which one you choose," said Caddell. |
