For those who need the space and comfort of a full-size sedan, nothing beats the rear-wheel-drive Ford Crown Victoria. Its double five-star safety rating and V-8 power are among the features that appeal to a diverse group of buyers including families with older children, active seniors and law enforcement agencies.

Powered by a V-8 engine, Crown Victoria's trademark features include one of the largest trunks in the industry, comfortable seating for six adults and large-car safety.

2000 Highlights

New for 2000 are several features such as the emergency trunk release, child seat anchor brackets, and the Belt Minder system – all developed to enhance passenger safety and security.

Ford Motor Company’s new emergency trunk release system will be installed as standard equipment on all Mercury, Lincoln and Ford cars in the United States and Canada.

For improved child safety, the 2000 Crown Victoria is equipped with child seat anchor brackets in the back seat to provide parents and caregivers with an improved method to more securely buckle in their child safety seats. The system secures child safety seats using tethers that attach to the anchor brackets, in addition to traditional safety belts.

Like other vehicles in the Mercury, Lincoln and Ford Division 2000-model year lineup, Crown Victoria also will be equipped with the Belt Minder chime, which reminds people to buckle up.

Safety and quality go hand-in-hand with the Crown Victoria. J.D. Power and Associates named Crown Victoria to its "Top Ten" list of quality vehicles in 1999.

Driving Dynamics

The Watt's linkage rear suspension system gives the Crown Victoria confident handling, while continuing to provide the comfort of a smooth ride. Its 4.6-liter SOHC V-8 engine provides 200 horsepower and can be increased to 215 horsepower with the optional handling package.

This package offers driving enthusiasts with performance tires, increased-rate rear stabilizer bars, revised shocks, dual exhaust and rear air springs. Automatic load leveling is provided by the rear air springs.

Special Services

Crown Victoria also is available as a dedicated natural gas vehicle. Rated as an ultra low-emission vehicle, the CNGV Crown Victoria adds environmental responsibility to its long list of attractive features.

The Crown Victoria Police Interceptor collars 85 percent of all police pursuit vehicle sales in the U.S. and Canada. Because of its rear-wheel-drive handling and ample seating and trunk, Crown Victoria is the pursuit vehicle of choice -- combining balanced performance with comfort for the officers and plenty of storage for equipment.

The 2000 Police Interceptor has a full, heavy-duty frame, 16-inch wheels and tires and larger brake rotors and pads with dual piston calipers, improved steering gear and Watt's linkage rear suspension.
