Ford Team Mondeo heads for Brands Hatch for rounds seven and eight of the Auto Trader British Touring Car Championships (May 15/16) full of optimism after a weekend of mixed fortunes at Thruxton.
The race event begins on Friday May 14, with the second day of official testing at the circuit, before all 17 drivers battle it out for a place on the front row of the grid on Saturday. The two races take place on Sunday.
Last years runner-up Anthony Reid, the current holder of the lap record at the Kent circuit, is optimistic his Ford Mondeo will begin to fulfil its promise having spent two testing sessions overseas fine tuning the chassis balance of the car.
The Oxford-based Scot said, "From an engineering point of view, the car needs a very good balance to cope well with the tight Indy circuit at Brands. I think the significant improvements and tweaks the team made at testing in Idiada and Pau recently will pay dividends this weekend."
He continued, "Brands Hatch is one of my favourite circuits in the BTCC calendar. I actually won twice at the circuit last year - although one race victory was thrown out - and have a soft spot for the circuit as it brings back fond memories of my Formula Ford days back in the early 1980s.
