ZX2 Comes Hot or Cool

The 1999 Ford ZX2 is available in "Cool" or "Hot" editions, with a rear spoiler now available on the "Cool" series as an option, and AM/FM stereo cassette and all-door remote keyless entry with panic alarm standard on the "Hot" series for 1999.

Also new for 1999 is a sew style incorporating the ZX2 script on the Sport Package seats and a new color scheme - Midnight Black. A leather-wrapped steering wheel is added to the optional Sport Package.

ZX2 struck a chord with younger buyers in 1998, its first full year on the market. Fun, sporty and a head-turner, ZX2 provides value-conscious consumers dependable transportation with a spirited performance.

"ZX2's zesty ride, sporty appearance, affordable price and low operating costs appeal to youthful buyers - or anyone else who tries to enjoy life without busting their budget," said ZX2 Brand Manager Kevin Smith.

The two-door sport coupe is powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC Zetec engine with variable cam timing. This advanced, fuel-efficient engine is teamed with a choice of standard five-speed manual or optional fourspeed automatic transmission. ZX2's engine delivers 130 horsepower at 5,750 rpm. The ZX2 powertrain is designed for low maintenance, with platinum-tipped spark plugs allowing a 100,000-mile tune-up interval under normal driving conditions with routine fluid and filter changes.

Major safety features include dual air bags, dynamic side-impact protection and optional anti-lock brakes.

Customers can choose among three Option Groups:

Comfort Group

Power Group

· Power door locks.

· Power side windows.

Sport Group

· 15-inch aluminum wheels.

· Rear spoiler.

· Fog lamps.

· Bright exhaust tip.

· All-cloth seats with rear integrated head restraints.

· Sport badging.

ZX2, based on the Escort platform, was introduced in 1997 and had sales of 40,702 that calendar year. ZX2 is manufactured in Hermosillo, Mexico.
