DEFINE JIMMY HERITAGE

CHICAGO - GMC Jimmy derives its rich heritage from 97 years of GMC truck-building experience.

Throughout its history, GMC has been involved in virtually every segment of the truck industry ranging from compact pick up trucks to Class 8 heavyduty semi-tractor trailers to buses and coaches.

The "Jimmy" name was first given to a dual rear axle, six-wheel-drive, 2-1/2 ton U.'S Army car hauler supplied in World War II.  The first vehicle marketed as a Jimmy was the full-size two-door introduced in 1970 and produced until 1991.

The compact utility-sized Jimmy was first introduced in 1983 as a two-door model.  the Jimmy four-door launched in the 1990 model year was totally re-engineered in 1994 and then received major interior and exterior changes in 1998.

Annual U.S. four-door Jimmy sales grew by 900 percent from the 1990 to 1997 model years (to approximately 75,000 units) as the four-door compact utility segment grew by 300 percent to 1.4 million units in the same time period.

In 1999, Jimmy celebrates its thirtieth anniversary.  As part of the celebration, a new Jimmy model - the Jimmy Diamond Edition - gets new styling cues that reflect true truck strength and expressive luxury.

The Diamond Edition Jimmy features popular accessories such as a brushed aluminum grille guard and tubular side steps, protective body side molding, and unique Diamond Edition "triple diamond" exterior and interior badging.  In addition, interior comfort is enhanced through its diamond-quilted perforated leather seats and trim.

"The 2000 Diamond Edition is a celebration of the Jimmy brand," said Jimmy Brand Manager Tony DiSalle. "'The Diamond Edition brings Jimmy to peak levels in terms of capability as well as comfort and helps define the direction of GMC's sport utilities going into the 21st century."
