THE
ALL-NEW SIERRA

This is the all-new GMC Sierra. A truck whose blueprint read: Engineer with a vengeance. Thoroughly redesigned, the Sierra offers nothing less than the most powerful Vortec V8 engines ever and the first automatic 4-wheel drive system on a pickup. To the 1% who ask more from a truck, look no further.
Ever since the first GMC truck rolled off the assembly line in 1902, GMC has devoted itself to one goal: perfecting trucks and only trucks. This near century-long devotion has established GMC firmly as America's truck leader.
Nothing exemplifies this philosophy better than the all-new 1999 GMC Sierra. It delivers the power, strength and refinement that could only have come from GMC.
The all-new 1999 Sierra has been re-thought, redesigned and re-engineered from the wheels up. The result is a full-size pickup truck that sports unique GMC styling along with more power, more towing and hauling capabilities, more body strength, more passenger and cargo space, and more driver and passenger amenities than ever before.
Rugged, All-Truck Styling
One look tells it all. The all-new 1999 Sierra from GMC simply looks like a truck should. Rugged, highly individualized body panels, such as the rounded shoulders on the Sierra's front end, irrefutably stamp it "GMC." Reinforcing its unique, all-truck styling is the traditional red GMC logo that stands out from the black background on Sierra's new grille. Flanking the grille are new integrated headlamp units that include parking and turn signals.
These new headlamps don't just look better than the previous model's, they also perform better. They produce a 20 percent increase in low-beam brightness and a 25-percent increase in high-beam brightness. The improvements translate into an effective low-beam range of 380 feet and a high-beam range of 600 feet. In addition, the new headlamps provide low-beam light in a path that is 15 percent wider, enabling drivers to see more -- and see it more clearly.
This improved lighting adds more light to the road, for an extra measure of safety. By enabling the driver to see the road better and for longer distances, the lighting system allows the driver to react sooner to obstacles. This is especially important in demanding driving conditions, such as inclement weather or when towing.
The all-new Sierra also delivers enhanced performance, economy and reliability, thanks to a new family of gasoline-powered Vortec V8 engines. Building on the strength of the Vortec engine line, these three all- new V8s raise the performance standards for truck powerplants. The new engines produce more power and more torque than the engines they replace, despite their smaller displacement. Engineers were able to produce more power from smaller engines by applying advanced technologies to Sierra's pushrod engines. In addition to the new Vortec V8 engine family, the all-new Sierra's powertrain lineup also includes the Vortec 4300 V6.
Towing capabilities of the four engines cover a wide range. A maximum towing capacity of 10,500 pounds -- more than 5 tons -- is possible with a two-wheel-drive Sierra 2500 Series with Vortec 6000 coupled with five-speed manual and 4.10:1 rear-axle ratio.
