GM SELECTS NEW ALLISON TRANSMISSION MANUFACTURING SITE

GM officials announced the selection of a 65-acre site in White Marsh, Md., to serve as home for a new manufacturing plant to produce its Allison 1000 Series automatic transmissions. Groundbreaking for the new 400,000 square-foot facility is tentatively set for this summer.

"We thank Governor Glendening, Baltimore County Executive C.A. "Dutch" Ruppersberger, Secretary Richard C. Mike Lewin, the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development for their assistance in enabling us to make this decision by working with us on a favorable economic development package. Our decision on the site is subject to finalization of the agreements negotiated with both the state and county," says Dan Hancock, president, Allison Transmission.

The new manufacturing facility, centrally-located one-quarter mile from I-95 in Baltimore County, will enable GM/Allison Transmission to bring its 1000 Series transmissions to market on schedule and meet anticipated strong customer demand, according to Hancock.
