TORRANCE, Calif. - Clearly a beneficiary of Honda's design and technological
excellence, the 1999 Honda Accord Coupe has achieved symmetry between sports carlike
performance, four-passenger convenience, fluid coupe styling and numerous integrated
safety features.
For the performance enthusiast, the Accord Coupe is available with a powerful
200-horsepower, 3.0-liter, 24-valve aluminum V-6 engine which features Honda's patented
VTEC system (variable valve timing and lift electronic control). Producing optimum torque
at low rpm, the V-6 engine propels the Coupe from 0-60 in just 8.2 seconds.
Proving you don't have to sacrifice environmental responsibility in favor of performance,
the Accord Coupe is also available with a fuel-efficient, 150-horsepower, 2.3-liter,
16-valve VTEC 4cylinder engine. This engine meets California's stringent Low Emission
Vehicle (LEV) standard and is sold nationally by Honda.
The Accord Coupe's V-6 is equipped with an electronically controlled 4-speed
automatic transmission, while the 4-cylinder version is available with either a 5-speed
manual or the 4-speed automatic. Automatic transmissions are equipped with Honda's Grade
Logic Control, which prevents excessive shifting during up hill or down hill driving. All
combinations provide outstanding fuel economy. The 4-cylinder with 5-speed transmission
earns an EPA city/highway rating of 25/31 mpg; while the 4-cylinder automatic is rated at
25/30 mpg and the V-6 at 21/28 mpg.
A reinforced body subframe helps the Coupe meet U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standards for frontal and side impact, as well as rollover. The Accord Coupe's Immobilizer
anti-theft system requires an electronic match between the driver's key and ignition
system for the car to start. Dual airbags, 5-mph bumpers and adjustable threepoint seat
belts at all five seating positions are also standard on the Accord Coupe. Four-wheel
anti-lock brakes are standard in both LX and EX trim levels with the V-6 engine and
optional on the 4-cylinder EX edition.
Attractive Standard and Optional Features
The Accord Coupe is available in LX and EX trim levels and all models feature an
impressive list of standard equipment: effort sensitive rack-and-pinion steering;
adjustable steering column; cruise control; power windows, mirrors and door locks; air
conditioning with micron air filtration; AM/FM/cassette stereo; 60/40 rear folding
seatbacks; rear cupholders and special tinted windows. A power moonroof and compact disc
player with six speakers are added to the Accord Coupe EX model. Optional equipment
includes a leather and wood-grain interior trim and eight-way power driver's seat.
Foldaway door mirrors are standard for 1999.
The EX V-6 Coupe boasts 16-inch tires and alloy wheels, steering wheel mounted audio
controls, leather interior with wood-grain trim, automatic climate control and a HomeLink@
remote system that is programmable to operate garage doors and home security systems.
All Accord Coupes are assembled in the United States at Honda of America Manufacturing
(HAM). Engine components are cast, forged and machined at the HAM plant in Anna, Ohio,
while vehicle manufacturing and final assembly takes place in Marysville, Ohio.
