TORRANCE, Calif. - Year after year, the Honda Accord remains the best-selling car to individual consumers in the United States. The 1999 Accord should be no exception. New for 1999, the LX and EX Sedans get foldaway door mirrors and all Accord Sedans feature new and improved seat fabric. Also new for 1999, Honda has expanded its production of Ultra Low Emissions Vehicles (ULEV) to now include all LX Sedans with automatic transmission. Previously, only EX models with automatic transmissions were available.

In addition to its eye-catching styling and consistently strong resale value, the Accord Sedan offers a more spacious cabin than either the Taurus or Camry and allows comfortable seating for five. The abundant interior space provides excellent head, shoulder and leg room.

Standard and Optional Features

All Accord Sedans feature effort-sensitive power steering, an adjustable steering column, intermittent wipers, AM/FM cassette stereo, dual power remote-control mirrors, rear window defroster and fold-down rear seatbacks.

The Accord LX comes fully equipped with two-way driver's seat height adjustment, power windows, auto-down driver's window, air conditioning with micron air filtration system, fold-down rear seatback with armrest pass-through, sunglass storage, and body colored exterior door handles and side moldings. An eight-way adjustable power driver's seat and anti-lock brakes are added to the LX V-6 model.

Accord EX Sedans are outfitted with a power moonroof with tilt feature, remote security and keyless entry system with remote door lock control, trunk release and panic alarm, auto-off headlights and upgraded 6-speaker AM/FM stereo with CD player.

Top-of-the-line EX V-6 models add steering wheel-mounted audio controls, programmable HomeLink remote control for garage and home security systems, leather interior with wood trim and a fully automatic climate control system.

The Accord's refined ride quality and precise, responsive, handling are the result of a sophisticated 5-link double-wishbone rear suspension and multi-link doublewishbone front suspension.

Engine and Transmission Packages

Accord Sedan customers can choose from three popular engines. For optimum performance, a 3.0-liter single overhead cam (SOHC) V-6 engine with Honda's patented VTEC (variable valve timing and valve-lift electronic control) delivers 200-horsepower and 195 foot-pounds of torque. As the lightest and most compact V-6 engine in the class, the Accord Sedan's 3.0-liter delivers an EPA estimated city/highway fuel economy rating of 21/28 mpg.

Accord 4-cylinder DX, LX and EX models are powered by a 2.3-liter, SOHC, 16-valve engine. A VTEC version of the engine, producing an ample 150-horsepower and 152 foot-pounds of torque, powers the LX and EX models and is EPA rated at 21/28 mpg city/highway. It meets California's Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) standards and is sold throughout the United States. The economical Accord DX engine produces 135-horsepower and 145 foot-pounds of torque with an EPA city/highway fuel economy estimate of 22/29 mpg.

A 5-speed manual transmission is standard equipment on all 4-cylinder Accords. A 4-speed automatic transmission with direct-electronic shift control for smoother gear changes is standard on all Accord V-6 Sedans and is available on 4-cylinder models.

Safety and Security Standard on Accord Sedans

Safety and security are top-of-mind considerations in the 1999 Accord Sedan. A high strength cabin structure and subframe help the Accord meet worldwide regulations for occupant protection, including U.S. frontal, side and angled-front impact standards.

The Accord's Immobilizer anti-theft system requires an electronic match between the driver's key and ignition system for the car to start. Also standard on all Accord Sedans are dual air bags, 5-mph bumpers and adjustable three-point seat belts at all five seating positions.

Honda of America Manufacturing's plant in Marysville, Ohio, is the main worldwide production source for the Accord Sedan. More than 400 North American suppliers contribute to the production of the U.S.-built Accord.
