L.A. Marathon XIV

As the presenting sponsor of the L.A. Marathon for the fourth consecutive year, American Honda would like to congratulate the entire field of runners, walkers, bicyclists and wheelchair participants.

Simon Bor from Kenya and Irina Bogacheva from Kyrgyzstan were the male and female winners. Bor completed the 26.2-mile race in a record-setting time of 2:09:25, breaking the previous record of 2:10:19 set in 1988. Bogacheva finished with a time of 2:30:32.

For their efforts, both were awarded a new 1999 Honda Accord EX V-6 Sedan, $35,000 in prize money and a place in the history books. Bor and Bogacheva received additional bonuses for their sub-finishes.

Honda would also like to thank the thousands of volunteers who year after year donate their time and energy into making the L.A. Marathon a wonderful community event.
