American Honda Continues Record-Setting Pace In April

TORRANCE, Calif.- A 52.9 percent jump in truck sales and a 98.7 percent increase in sales of the Acura TL pushed total American Honda sales in April to 90,352, a new record for the month and the fourth consecutive record month of 1999, according to sales figures released by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

Honda Division sales were up 3.8 percent to 80,538, a new record for the month and the 24th consecutive monthly record for the Division. Sales of the Odyssey minivan were up 211.1 percent to 4,246, while CR-V sales of 10,521 were up 40.7 percent, both records for April. Acura Division sales of 9,814 were paced by 4,671 TLs, the eighth consecutive monthly record for the model.

"The increase in gas prices hasn't dampened the demand for trucks, minivans and SUVs," said Dick Colliver, American Honda executive vice president. "Confidence in the economy remains strong and continues to drive consumer demand for big-ticket items."

Year-to-date American Honda sales of 331,614 are 8.3 percent ahead of 1998's all-time record pace.
