HUMMER WINS THE BAJA 1000 AGAIN

Winter 1999 - Driving in his 31st Baja 1000, the legendary Rod Hall claimed his 16th victory in this internationally renowned desert race. He finished more than three hours ahead of the nearest competitor!
Hall was part of the team driving the HUMMER owned by brothers Eric and Terry Henn. Eric started the race with their Snap-On Tools/BF Goodrich sponsored 97 HUMMER pickup in Santo Tomas, Mexico. He had been locked in a duel for the lead during the firs 350 miles with the Ford entries of Marc Stein and Dave Sykes and John Griffin's HUMMER #2.
According to Hall, "Just south of Catavina, Eric passed the two Fords mired in a silt bed, so we had the second HUMMER stop and tow them to solid ground so they could continue in the hunt.
"About 450 miles into the race, we discovered a torn axle boot and had to spend about 20 minutes making repairs," Hall said, "but that was the only problem the Quaker State/Night Driver HUMMER gave us all day long. Terry brought the vehicle into Insurgentes leading the race, slid over, and I got behind the wheel."
With 250 miles remaining in the 1998 Tecate/SCORE Baja 1000, it was business as usual for the Reno, Nev., HUMMER dealer. He added to the team's lead and crossed the finish line in the shadow of downtown La Paz; three hours and 21 minutes in front of the second place Ford of Marc Stein. HUMMER #2 finished third.
"We really worked hard for this one," said a jubilant Hall from the Winner's Circle.
