The Hyundai Elantra wagon which, since its introduction, has
offered more room, driving enjoyment, standard features and affordability than any other
compact station wagon, now offers even more advantages to buyers in 1999.That's not all. Hyundai also provides original Elantra wagon owners with
industryleading limited powertrain coverage -- 10 years or 100,000 miles. Even if the car
is sold, Hyundai backs Elantra wagon's powertrain for five years or 60,000 miles.
Corrosion coverage is provided for five years or 100,000 miles. There is no deductible on
any of these coverages.
The Inside Story for 1999
Hyundai has also made refinements to the 1999 Elantra wagon's interior. Probably the first
thing buyers will notice is updated seat cloth -- a new, high-quality woven fabric for the
standard model and a tricot print fabric on the GLS model. Door panels have been
redesigned, too, with door trim color matching the color of the seat fabric.
There's also a new four-spoke steering wheel with a low-weight magnesium core, providing
increased strength and durability. The horn switch is now a dome-type in the center of the
wheel, which allows for quicker, easier horn activation during an emergency. On the
dashboard are new, rotary-type climate controls.
What hasn't changed about the Elantra wagon's interior is its roominess, comfort and long
list of standard features. With the rear seat up, the wagon's cargo capacity is a generous
32.3 cubic feet. When the standard double-folding 60/40 rear seat is folded flat, cargo
capacity is 63 cubic feet - tops among compact station wagons!
Space for people is generous, too, with comfortable seating available for five adults.
Elantra wagon is at the top of the compact wagon class in leg, hip and shoulder room, as
well as overall EPA passenger volume.
Interior comfort in the Elantra wagon is aided by advanced seat cushions that adapt to an
occupant's build. Front seat backs have been slightly widened for 1999, and the driver's
seat features a dual-height adjustment device and the same type of lumbar support
mechanism used in luxury cars costing much more. The Elantra wagon also offers adjustable
headrests and front seat belt anchors to enhance comfort.
Standard equipment on the Elantra wagon includes an impressive list of features, headlined
by air conditioning. That's just one of several Elantra wagon standard features that , are
available only as extra-cost options on competitive models. Others include variable
intermittent wipers and tachometer Among the features on the Elantra GLS wagon, power
windows and dual power remote mirrors are extra-cost options on competitors' compact
wagons. And the six-way adjustable driver's seat that's standard on Elantra GLS wagon
isn't available at all on any other compact wagon.
New for 1999 in the Elantra wagon is an intermittent function on the rear wiper/washer.
Carryover features include fully carpeted interior, carpeted cargo compartment, AM/FM ETR
stereo cassette player with four speakers, quartz digital clock, full center console with
storage box and coin box, intermittent front windshield wipers, side window defoggers in
front, front door map pockets, lockable glove box, side view mirror controls, and remote
releases for the fuel filler door and tailgate.
