BUYER ASSURANCE PROGRAM HELPS
ACCENT REDEFINE VALUE IN SUBCOMPACT SEGMENT
For the 1999 model year, the Hyundai Accent continues to offer buyers levels of
sophistication, technology and comfort not normally found in the subcompact class.
Accent is one of the lowest-priced cars in America. Yet its low purchase price is
only one component of Accent's value story. Accent offers a long list of standard features
that make Accent roomier, more comfortable, more refined and more fun to drive than any
subcompact competitor -- and many cars costing much more.
In addition to providing buyers with outstanding value, Hyundai backs Accent with an
assurance package that's unmatched in the industry. Called The Hyundai Advantage, this
package reflects Hyundai's confidence in the quality of its products.
The Hyundai Advantage includes limited bumper-to-bumper coverage for five years or 60,000
miles. This exceeds the coverage on competitive cars costing over twice as much. In
addition, Accent buyers receive 24-hour roadside assistance coverage at no extra charge
for five full years (no mileage limit); it includes emergency towing, lock-out service and
limited coverage for trip-interruption expenses.
That's not all. Hyundai also provides original Accent owners with industry-leading limited
powertrain coverage -- 10 years or 100,000 miles. Even if the car is sold, Hyundai backs
Accent's powertrain for five years or 60,000 miles. Corrosion coverage is provided for
five years or 100,000 miles. There is no deductible on any of these coverages.
Styling combines form with function
In 1999 Hyundai offers Accent in three trim levels. The entry-level Accent L
three-door hatchback is the low price leader. Rounding out the 1999 Accent's lineup are
the well-equipped GS three-door hatchback and the feature-packed GL four-door sedan.
Accent's value begins with its sophisticated styling, which combines form with function.
Its sleek design means buyers will have a contemporary-looking vehicle for years to come.
This design is also aerodynamic, which reduces wind noise, provides a quieter ride and
enhances fuel economy. Bodycolor 5 mph front and rear bumpers, integrated bodycolor
grille, recessed door handles and flush-mounted halogen headlamps contribute to Accent's
stylish design. In addition, the optional sporty package available on the Accent GS
features a rear spoiler, front fog lamps, lower cladding and aluminum alloy wheels.
Upscale technology at an affordable price
All four Accent models are powered by Hyundai's high-tech 1.5-liter SOHC alpha engine
designed and engineered by Hyundai. Producing 92 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and a
classleading 97 ft./lbs. of torque at 4,000 rpm, it boasts technical features normally
found only in more expensive cars.
The 12-valve, single overhead cam design eliminates many parts used in older engines,
reducing weight and increasing efficiency. Other features include distributorless
ignition, hydraulic valve lash adjusters, roller rocker arms, and electronic fuel
ignition.
A smooth-shifting five-speed manual transmission is standard on the 1999 Accent. Buyers
who select the GS or GL models can select an optional four-speed automatic transmission
with sophisticated, electronically controlled operation, lock-up torque converter and
driver-selectable overdrive.
With its advanced four-wheel independent suspension, Accent also offers more precise,
road-hugging handling than most consumers would expect to find in an entry-level car.
Accent's suspension features MacPherson struts and offset coil springs in front and a
multilink design with coil springs in the rear, providing excellent ride comfort and
handling. Stabilizer bars both front and rear reduce body roll. The GS, when equipped with
optional sporty package, features a sport-tuned suspension with revised shock valving,
spring rates and bushings for even greater cornering ability and a sporty-car feel.
Rack-and-pinion steering and a turning diameter of just 31.8 feet make all Accent models
easy to maneuver. The GL and GS models offer a power-assisted steering system that
provides excellent road feel and handling capabilities. All four Accent models have a
power-assisted dual-diagonal braking system with ventilated discs in front and
self-adjusting drums in the rear.
The three-door GS and four-door GL models have P I 75nOR- 13 steel-belted, all-season
radial tires with deluxe full wheel covers. The GS with optional sporty package offers
P175/65/HR-14 performance radials and aluminum alloy wheels.
