Make It Five Years In A Row
for I30 Limited's 3L VQ engine

I30's engine

FFor the fifth straight year -- indeed, every year of the competition -- Ward's Auto World magazine has named the I30 Limited's 3L VQ engine one of its 10 Best Engines. In their words, the VQ "simply is the best V-6 engine available in America." Here's what else they had to say:

A word for the technically inclined ...

"Several automakers' powertrain engineers have told us they benchmark the VQ. And why wouldn't they? The 3L VQ probably is the only engine we've experienced that often forces you to look at the gear lever to ascertain which gear you're currently using -- one can be cruising at 70 mph and the car's in fifth gear. Or it can be in third. The occupants can't tell, because the common tactile and aural sensations of reciprocating engine masses just aren't making it through that tight aluminum engine block. Chalk it up to assiduous microfinishing of major engine internals. Or the drastically lightened valvetrain and the 20% reduction in frictional losses over the iron-block 3L V-6 the VQ replaced in '95. The net effect is an engine that revs with supreme ease, yet never acts dainty about providing power."

In other words ...

"Five years ago, the 3L VQ V-6 suggested divine engineering inspiration. It must have been -- nobody's caught up yet."
