A new level: The all-new 1999 Jeep® Grand Cherokee
The new 1999 Jeep® Grand Cherokee keeps Chrysler at the head of the pack
in the increasingly competitive sport-utility vehicle class.
"Designing the new Grand Cherokee was like doing a new generation of Rolls Royce or
Harley Davidson, " says Tom Gale, Chrysler executive vice president for product
strategy, design and general manager for Jeep operations. "The Jeep image is larger
than life. This new vehicle had to reflect that unique character. Our design team set out
for a new level of execution in refinement -- and they delivered."
Here's how:
* Technology -- The new 4.7-liter, V-8 PowerTech engine offers more power while also
increasing fuel efficiency. The new electronically controlled transmission provides better
initial acceleration and smoother downshifts. And the new integrated anti-lock braking
system with electronic brake distribution provides the best stopping ability in the Jeep
Grand Cherokee's class.
* Capability -- An all-new Quadra Drive(tm) four-wheel drive system keeps the Jeep Grand
Cherokee moving even if only one wheel has minimal traction. And the Vari-Lok axles, which
have a progressive, speed-sensing torque transfer differential front and rear, are an
industry-first.

* Luxury -- More headroom, more hip-room, a cavernous luggage compartment, ergonomic design; all primary controls are at fingertip distance. Even most radio/compact disc controls are integrated on the steering wheel.
