IRVINE, Calif., - With sales spurred by its popular month-long ad campaign parodying the predictions of Y2K disaster, Kia Motors America turned in its best sales month in history, coming on the heels of a strong April. Kia recorded sales of 12,795 vehicles in May, a 103-percent increase over last May's sales.
May was also a record-breaking month for sales of the Sephia compact sedan and the Sportage 2-Door Convertible. Kia sold 7,821 Sephias and 645 Sportage 2-Door Convertibles during the month. Kia's year-to-date sales through the first five months of 1999 were 63 percent higher than in 1998.
