LAND ROVER: THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE AUTHORITY
LANHAM, Md. - Land Rover is, first and last, the four-wheel-drive authority. This identity is most evident in the refined ruggedness of Land Rover vehicles, which are exemplary on the highway and unmatched in the dirt. However, being the four-wheel-drive authority means pursuing all aspects of the off-road experience - not just the vehicles. Theat's why Land Rover pioneered the Land Rover Centre concept, a unique change from the traditional dealership experience.
Land Rover Centre
While every Centre is unique, all feature similar elements: short off-road demonstration courses, multimedia Adventure Centres and displays of local artifacts, each designed to evoke the Land Rover heritage. Centre team members are cross-trained through ongoing courses presented by Land Rover University, LRNA's corporate training arm. Centre personnel enthusiastically support one another in meeting the common goal of delivering 4x4 expertise and customer satisfaction.
Land Rover Kits
Land Rover vehicles mesh perfectly with the active outdoor lifestyles of their owners. To that end, the company's Kit program offers a wide array of vehicle accessories, each designed to enhance the capabilities of the Land Rover vehicles. A broad selection ensures that every Land Rover owner can personalize his or her vehicle to suit a variety of needs and preferences. Land Rover Kit can be installed by any authorized Land Rover Retailer.
For 1999, the focus of the Land Rover Kit program is on Discovery Series II, with a new range of items to fit the specifications of this advanced vehicle. Many previously available items have been adapted to mach the style of Discovery Series II: the majority will be available when the vehicle is launched in the fall. Kit items designed for the original Discovery will, of course, continue to be offered.
Brush bars, seat covers, dog guards, self-recovery winches, roof racks and carriers, custom wheels, mats, running boards and many more Kit items are available for Discovery and Range Rover. And, for Discovery owners, there are four popular spare tire covers featuring Lion, Rhino, Elephant and Cheetah motifs that evoke the vehicle's safari image.
Since it became available in May 1998, one of the premier Kit items is a sophisticated GPS satellite navigation pachage offered to all Range Rover 4.0 SE and 4.6 HSE drivers. The aptly named JAMES (Journey Assistance and Mapping Exploration System) assists drivers in reaching destinations throughout the continental United States.
JAMES features scalable maps, turn-by-turn directions and audible commands spoken with a distinctly British accent. The single touch of a button repeats a missed command. With a map scale adjustable from 400 feet to 50 miles, a driver can select either a turn-by-turn pictogram screen or a map overlay of an entire surrounding area. JAMES is accurate to within 10 yards. The system also provides directions to more than 400,000 points of interest such as hotels, restaurants and hospitals. And, should an emergency arise, JAMES will display a screen showing the vehicle's precise location, which can then be relayed either to Land Rover's 24-hour Road Recovery network or another appropriate service.
Land Rover Kit supplies innovative and functional accessories for Land Rover vehicles. The Kit program will continue to compliment and advance alongside the British automaker's model lineup.
