The Lincoln Town Car adds several new safety features for the new model year, including an emergency trunk release, child seat anchors and Belt Minderä system.
Safety and Security
The 2000 Lincoln Town Car comes standard with an emergency trunk release, designed to allow a child or adult trapped in the trunk to open it from the inside. The glow-in-the-dark trunk release handle is factory installed and standard equipment on all Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.
The 2000 Town Car also is equipped with a child safety seat anchor in the back seat to provide parents and caregivers with an improved method to secure child safety seats.
The 2000 Town Car also will feature Belt MinderÔ , which reminds drivers and passengers to buckle up with the sound of a chime and indicator light.
Additional safety features include front side impact air bags, which are standard equipment on all Town Car models. In addition to the second generation airbags, these seat-mounted air bags offer extra protection to the head and chest areas.
Along with the airbag system, the 2000 Lincoln Town Car's other safety feature include body-on-frame construction, anti-lock brakes and an all-speed traction control system.
Traction control is standard on all models and shares wheel speed information with the ABS. If one wheel shows signs of slipping, a control computer automatically applies one or both rear brakes and reduces engine output by modulating fuel delivery and ignition timing.
For 2000, the Lincoln Town Car continues to be offered in three versions -- the Executive, Signature and Cartier.
Powertrain
The 2000 Lincoln Town Car's powertrain uses an advanced SOHC 4.6-liter V-8 combined with a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The Executive and Signature series peak power output is 205 horsepower at 4,250 rpm. Maximum torque is 280 foot-pounds at 3,000 rpm.
The Cartier and Signature Touring Sedan Town Car models are equipped with a dual exhaust system and deliver 220 hp at 4,500 rpm and 290 foot-pounds of torque at 3,500 rpm.
The Lincoln Town Car is manufactured in Wixom, Mich.
