A lift in equipment level and two exclusive colours are highlights of the first of a series of 'extra value' models which Mazda has launched to mark its 40 years in Australia.

The company has announced a Limited Edition of the 1.5 litre 121 Metro which is available in a two colour choice of either Highlight Silver or Grape Purple. The exterior is also distinguished by alloy road wheels and a spoiler on the rear hatch.

Power windows have been added to the equipment list as well as remote central locking, passenger side door pocket and cloth inserts in the door trims.

Air conditioning also comes in the anniversary package along with front floor mats and a special 40th Anniversary decal.

National Sales Manager Doug Dickson said there would be 300 of the special models imported of which 200 were equipped with 4 speed electronic automatic transmission and 100 with the five speed manual gearbox.

"Standard equipment already includes power mirrors and power steering, so the extra equipment will make it a very well appointed small car," he said.

"At a price of $18,490 for the manual and $19,990 for the auto, this quality Mazda product represents exceptional value," he said.

One of the most versatile small cars on the market, the 121 Metro offers what Mazda refers to as "OptiSpace" being a spacious and flexible interior ideal for 5 people or a combination of passengers and 'vast' quantities of luggage.

The car's fuel injected 1.5 litre engine produces 64 kW of power, 128 Nm of torque and delivers spirited performance.

Like its stablemates, the 40th anniversary model is protected by Mazda's 3 Year/Unlimited Kilometre Warranty.
