M-Class Safest in its Class

Mercedes M Class

The M-Class is the safest all-terrain vehicle in its class according to results of a recent crash test conducted by the American "Insurance Institute for Highway Safety".

Ten competitors' models from America and Japan were tested, five of which had already been previously subjected to the same testing criteria. The M-Class was the only vehicle accorded the top rating of "Good" in the category "Structure and Passenger Compartment".

The M-Class sets a high safety standard with its modern four-wheel drive, independent suspension front and rear, ABS, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes.

A stable chassis of torsionally rigid box sections provides the car with the solidity and stability one expects from this kind of vehicle. Both longitudinal members are joined by three cross members. Impact absorbers in the front and rear cross members absorb energy in a low-speed crash, protecting the longitudinal member. Thus, an additional benefit for the owner are lower repair costs. Hefty steel girders in the doors protect passengers in case the car is hit from the side. Sidebags which deploy in a fraction of a second provide additional protection. Auxiliary frames for the front and rear suspension and ten rubber bushings insulate the body from uneven roads and noise.
