DAIMLERCHRYSLER UK FORMED
Mercedes-Benz (UK) Ltd and Chrysler Jeep Imports UK are to merge to become DaimlerChrysler (UK) Ltd.
The merger will take effect from 1 January 2000 and follows DaimlerChrysler's strategic development throughout Europe.
Paul Halata, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz UK, will head the new company which will include a Chrysler Jeep member on the new board of management. Plans are already under way to ensure a seamless transition to form the new organisation.
DaimlerChrysler UK will use the Milton Keynes offices of Mercedes-Benz (UK) as its new headquarters and all staff from Dover-based Chrysler Jeep will be invited to join the new company.
Paul Halata said: "The UK is an important strategic market for DaimlerChrysler and this move follows the group's overall aim of taking greater control of our destiny. It's an enormously exciting opportunity for everyone with the existing companies to play a part in the success of a new, larger organisation."
Work will begin shortly to plan the operating structure of DaimlerChrysler UK, although it will be some time before this work is complete. The new company will be responsible for the import and distribution within the UK of Mercedes-Benz trucks, vans, cars and Chrysler Jeep products along with parts and associated services.
