2000 Mercury Mountaineer

The 2000 Mercury Mountaineer heightens its appeal to upscale sport utility vehicle buyers with the "Premier" Mountaineer - available with several luxury-level features as standard equipment.

2000 Mountaineer

Powertrain

Mountaineer power comes from Ford’s dependable 5.0-liter V-8 engine, teamed with an electronic automatic overdrive transmission. A 3.73 rear axle ratio is also standard. The 5.0-liter V-8 delivers 215 horsepower at 4,200 rpm and 288 foot-pounds of torque at 3,300 rpm. Mountaineer’s two-engine lineup is unchanged for 2000. Ford’s 210-horsepower SOHC V-6 is standard, and the 5.0-liter V-8 is optional, except with the Premier package.

LEV

Mountaineer is a certified Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV). A LEV vehicle emits up to 50 percent fewer smog forming hydrocarbon emissions compared with most other vehicles on the road today, and far exceeds all legal requirements.

Safety

Mountaineer’s safety features include driver and passenger air bags, a head and chest air bag system and a reverse sensing system that warns a driver of objects near the rear of the vehicle when the driver is backing up.
