New Tracer Sport Wagon adds a dash of flair

Tracer, Mercury's small car that's big on value, offers drivability, refinement and amenities that are exceptions in its class.

"Tracer appeals to young families and couples who value comfort, quietness and smooth ride in a small car," said Al Giombetti, Mercury group brand manager. "They recognize that size no longer limits driver satisfaction, and they view small cars as smaller versions of midsize coupes and sedans."

Tracer fits the needs of these young families - in terms of its role, the features it offers and what the customers are willing to spend.

A sport wagon enters the 1999 Tracer lineup with leather seating surfaces, leather-wrapped steering wheel and 15-inch wheels and tires.

Tracer is powered by a 2.0-liter SOHC four-cylinder engine with a split-port induction system, which optimizes emissions control, fuel economy and drivability. The engine produces 110 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 125 foot-pounds of torque at 3,750 rpm. The LS version now offers air conditioning, rear defroster, AM/FM stereo cassette, dual power mirrors and an all-door remote entry system.
